Android tablets are currently dominating the tablets market, it is almost as if they are enjoying an exclusive dominance in the market. The battle, however, is when it comes to fight for the market, this is where manufacturers are trying to outdo each other. The competition is very healthy and has given rise to all sorts of tablets â" cheap tablets and powerful tablets, small 5 inch phablets and large 10 inch laptop-like tablets.
The entry of Microsoftâs Surface tablets and the anticipated iPad mini by apple may shake the market a little but we cannot accurately predict what effect these tablets and mini-tablets will have on the performance of Android in the market.
This month, we have new tablets that have made it to the top of the list of the best Android tablets in the market. Are you looking for the best? Well, I hope that this September 2012 top 10 Android tablets will be helpful to you.
10. Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1
This 10 incher has not created so much buzz in the Android market but what is very intriguing is its unique design. With angular rounded corners, the Droid Xyboard is one of the most unique in the market today. Motorolaâs first Android tablet is still on the market but that was nothing compared to this one. This powerful tablet may not be powered by a Tegra 3 or Snapdragon S4 processors but it sure offers impressive performance with its Texas Instruments OMAP processor. This is a perfect tablet for students and those who need a tablet for daily average use, I would not recommend it if you are a hardcore gamer or need to use applications that demand too much power.
Pros: Thin, lightweight, ergonomic design, decent battery life, 4G LTE capability.
Cons: Expensive ($500!), poor camera, no microSD slot, unimpressive build quality.
Core Specs
Processor: Dual Core 1.2 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 CPU
Operating System: Android 3.2 Honeycomb (Upgradable to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich)
Memory: 1 GB RAM, choice of 16, 32 or 64 GB onboard memory

Connectivity: 4D LTE on Verizon, HSDPA, CDMA, 1xEV-DO, GSM, WiFi, A-GPS
Battery: 7000 mAh
9. Toshiba Excite 10
This is another cure tablet with uniquely rounded corners from a very popular name in computing technology.  Despite the Japanese companyâs success in laptop, they have not really pulled any magic tricks in the tablets front yet â" and I am not so sure they will any time this year. The Excite 10 is a nice looking tablet but what most reviewers agree is that its build quality is not up to par. It is ranked lowly despite its quad core high performance processor and up to 64 GB of onboard memory largely because of the build. However, this is the holiday season, and if you are getting something from a reputable name, then the Excite 10 may be it.
Pros: Excellent performance, full-size SD Card slot, Thin easy to grip design, vibrant display
Cons: Sluggish camera, poor battery life, poor power connector
Core Specs
Processor: 1.5 GHz Quad Core Tegra 3
Operating System: Android 3.2 Honeycomb

Cameras: 5 Megapixels rear and 2.0 Megapixels front
Connectivity: WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, miniUSB,
Battery: Standard Li-Ion battery, can offer 8hr standby time
8. ASUS EEE Pad Transformer Prime (TF201)
Whenever you hear of an Asus tablet, it often comes with good things that are synonymous with quality and reliability. The Asus EEE Pad Transformer Prime sure enough lives up to its complex name and can easily pass as the crème de la crème of all the Android tablets. With this tablet though, Asus failed with the quality of GPS and WiFi performance â" probably because they rushed to introduce it into the market. This was the first tablet to feature a Tegra 3 processor but it is not the best performance tablet in the market today. There have been so many complaints from customers too concerning the dock keyboard quality and the tablet screen but all in all it is worth the price tag.
Pros: light and portable, high performance processor with smooth HD video playback, screen is very readable and perfect for games.
Cons: The camera, keyboard dock and screen are shaky, minor software bugs in recording program and high price.
Core Specs
Processor: Quad Core 1.3 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 with ULP GeForce GPU
Operating System: Android 3.2 (Honeycomb), upgradable to v4.0 Jelly Bean or 4.1 Ice Cream Sandwich
Memory: 1 GB RAM, 32 or 64 GB onboard memory with MicroSD card slot
Display: 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 149 ppi Screen
Cameras: 8 Megapixels rear and 1.2 Megapixels front
Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0,
Battery: 25 Wh
7. Acer Iconia Tab A700
The Iconia Tab A700 is a new entrant in the Android tablet fray from one of the most successful computer manufacturing companies in the world. If Acer is successful for one thing, it is quality build at affordable pricing. Iconia Tab A700 is a 10 inch tablet that is perfect for reading and watching movies thanks to its Full HD resolution and a powerful quad core Tegra 3 processor. However, being a little too plastic-y as most Acers are to keep their prices down, this would not be the perfect for you if you are clumsy with gadgets and tend to drop them often.
Pros: High resolution screen with clear txt and graphics, comfortable to hold, microHDMI
Cons:Â The Tegra 3 processor doesât match HD display, unimpressive cameras
Core Specs
Processor: 1.3 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with ULP GeForce GPU
Operating System: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Memory: 1 GB RAM, choice of 16, 32 and 64 GB onboard memory, with microSD memory slot

Cameras: 5 Megapixels rear and 1.3 megapixels front camera
Connectivity: WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, MicroUSB, USB,
Battery: 9,800 mAh
6. Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 2
Personally, I think that the 7 inch tablets are doing much better in the market than their 10 inch counterparts, that is why almost every manufacturer who started off with a 10 inch is now making an entry into the 7 inch section. The original 7 inch galaxy tab 7.0 was not that impressive, but this is worth looking at. It comes with a ton of accessories for those who want them including a physical keyboard. It is suitable for office workers and students.
Pros: Solid performance, expandable storage, good feel and size
Cons: Lacking display performance, meager cameras, expensive
Core Specs
Processor: 1 GHz Dual core TI OMAP 4430 with PowerVR SGX540GPU

Cameras: 3.15 Megapixels rear and VGA front
Connectivity: Dual-band WiFi, WiFi Direct, GPS, DLNA
Battery: 4000 mAh
5. ASUS Transformer TF300
Asus is a popular name when it comes to Android tablets and it is because there is just a lot to love about the devices that they make. There is even more to admire about the TF300 and better still, it comes for cheap. With its superfast processor, and enough RAM to run very graphical games and the option to buy add-on accessories, you can transform this baby into anything you want. This, therefore, makes this the perfect gadget for those who want something to use in the office, at school at home for entertainment or to play games.
Pros: Fancy eye-catching design, compelling apps suite, mobile keyboard, strong performance, great camera
Cons: A thick bezel (smudge-bezel), harsh unclear surround sound, dimmer screen
Core Specs
Processor: Quad core 1.2 GHz Tegra 3
Operating System:
Memory: 1 GB RAM with 16 or 32 GB onboard memory with microSD slot
Display: 10.1 inch 1280Ã800 149 ppi LCD Screen
Cameras: 8 Megapixels rear and 1.2 Megapixel front
Connectivity: WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth v3
Battery: 22Wh
4. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
Samsung outdid itself with this 10.1 inch tablet if you ask me. This Android tablet may not have performed too well in the market after release but it definitely is one of the finest you can find in the market. Although this tablet looks a lot different in design compared to other Galaxy tables and even runs on an Exynos processor, it has some great features and is designed for productivity more than entertainment although it certainly can serve both purposes perfectly. It is also the only tablet to come with an S-Pen that makes it possible to make calls from via Bluetooth. It is not the cheapest you can find but with the features, it certainly is a bargain;
Pros: Excellent battery, tons of great software, stylus support, solid hardware and add-on accessories.
Cons: Quite costly, limited screen resolution. Some proprietary applications are a bit clunky.
Core Specs
Processor: 1.4 GHz quad core Exynos with Mali 400MP GPU
Operating System: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Memory: 2 GB RAM, choice of 16, 32 and 64 GB onboard memory with MicroSD card slot
Display: 10.1 inch  1280Ã800 149 ppi LCD
Cameras: 5 Megapixels rear and 1.9 Megapixels front
Connectivity: 3G (optional), GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, Infra-Red, USB, USB Host port
Battery: 7000 mAh
3. ASUS Transformer Infinity
I remember when the Infinity came out earlier this year and after reading its core specs, I really wanted to get my hands on one. The infinity tablet is a 10 inch gadget that sure was built to impress as it comes with all the mod-cons combined from other tablets in the transformer family. With its 1920 X 1200 full HD display and a powerful 1.6 GHz Tegra 3 processor, you just have to envy the power of this tab. I just wish that the Asus, a Taiwanese company making a name especially in the US market, equipped a 2GB RAM on this tablet as this is the only specification that does not complement its high performance.
Pros: Optional dock with physical QWERTY keyboard, very good battery, impressive processing speed and graphics.
Cons: Quite heavy, the keyboard is a little cramped, costly.
Core Specs
Processor: 1.6 GHz Quad core Tegra 3 with ULP GeForce GPU
Operating System: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (Upgradable to Jelly Bean soon)
Memory: 1 GB RAM, choice of 32 or 64 GB onboard memory, MicroSD card slot
Display: 10.1 inch 1920Ã1200 224 ppi Super IPS screen
Cameras: 8 Megapixels rear and 2 Megapixels front cameras
Connectivity: GPS, Full-Size USB on the dock, WiFi,
Battery: 25 Wh
2. Sony Xperia Tablet S
Sony sure made a grand re-entry into the tablets market with the Xperia family of tablets. Sony has not managed to establish a formidable presence in the American Android market yet but it is headed in the right direction if the Android smartphones and tablets are anything to go by. This is a unique kind of tablet, with a 9.4 inch screen rather than the 7 inch or 10.1 inch we are used to but it has very impressive features and design. The good thing is, the Xperia Tablets (yes, even the P) come with a wide range of add-on accessories to make the tablet perfect for whatever you want it for.
Pros: Quality, comfortable design, crisp display, good battery, storage expansion, universal remote, range of add-on accessories including keyboard and speakers.
Cons: WiFi is sluggish, slow wake up time, very high price, annoying port cover.
Core Specs
Processor: 1.3 GHz Quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 with ULP GeForce GPU
Operating System: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Memory: 1 GB RAM, option of 16, 32 and 64 GB onboard memory, microSD card slot
Display: 9.4 inch 1280Ã800 161 ppi IPS screen
Cameras: 8 Megapixels rear and 1 Megapixels front
Connectivity: WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth,
Battery: 6000 mAh
1. Google Nexus 7
The greatest selling point of Nexus 7 is its low price. While the competition in the smartphone market is very stiff, Nexus 7 has maintained the top position (even in many other reviews) for weeks since it was unveiled. It may miss a few things but when it comes to build quality and features, it tops the list. With the hardware developed by Asus, Nexus 7 is a 7 incher to beat thanks to its power and performance. This tablet is suitable for home, school and office use, whatever you want it to do, except, well, taking pictures and storing all your movies and music in it.
Pros: High quality hardware, NFC support, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, Bundled Google Play freebies, low price.
Cons: Unimpressive IPS display, limited storage, few apps, No rear camera.
Core Specs
Processor: 1.3 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3
Operating System: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Memory: 1 GB RAM, choice of 8 or 16 GB onboard
Display: 7 inch 1280Ã800 HD 216 ppi IPS screen
Cameras: 1.2 Megapixels front, no rear camera
Connectivity: NFC, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, microUSB
Battery: 4325 mAh
